Law firm opens on Main Street

Two attorneys residing in Ramona have opened Toothacre & Ames LLP, a law firm, in the Day Promenade building at 850 Main St.
Scott Toothacre and Casey Ames bring more than 25 years of combined legal service to Ramona in the areas of civil litigation, business law, employment law, estate planning, personal injury and wrongful death, and DUI (driving under the influence) defense.
Toothacre is a native of the San Diego area and previously lived in La Jolla and Poway. He said that, when he passed through Ramona on trips to Borrego Springs, he would always say, “I could live here. Get out away from crowds and traffic.”
He has now in Ramona for at least 10 years and said he loves the community. Toothacre was previously in a private practice with his father, Rod Toothacre, who died in March.
A graduate of Thomas Jefferson Law School, Toothacre said he has extensive experience in complex civil and commercial matters, both for plaintiff and defense, and he has tried over 30 jury trials that typically lasted five to six weeks. He has had experience with the Appellate Court in the Fourth District Court of Appeals and in the California Supreme Court.
Toothacre also provides consulting on employment law issues, including training and investigations.
Ames is originally from the Midwest and has lived in Ramona with her husband for three years.
“I love it here,” she said. “It’s nice to have that small town feel.”
Ames previously worked as an in-house counsel for a business in the region where she handled various civil and employment matters. Prior experience also includes working as in-house counsel for a construction company in Las Vegas.
While they both have a small town attitude, Toothacre said they bring big city expertise to the community. And although their law firm is located in Ramona, Ames said they have clients all over San Diego.
“We do travel all over Southern California for cases,” said Ames.
