Ramona Girls Under 15 soccer team traveled to Orange County recently to compete in the Orange County Kickoff Classic.

The girls U14 and U15 teams merged this year under the direction of Coach Justin Jordan. The majority of the team is younger but the combination of the two teams has proven to work out well, said the coach.

“The girls dominated this tournament, said Jordan. “They were quick on their feet and connected pass after pass.”

With a record of 1-1, a 2-0 win and 5-1 win did not get Ramona to the final game. Goals during the weekend were scored by Kacie Jordan (6), Naomi Ramirez (1) and Katherine Lorentz (1). Ramona kept control of the games in the attacking third of the field throughout the tournament.

The abilities of Ramona mid-fielders Shaylee Lessler, Danielle Vizcarra, Daniela Charbonneau, Ceci Estrada, Naomi Ramirez, Katherine Lorentz, Courtney Dolan and Karli Njaa maintained possession of the ball, creating opportunities for the girls to score.

Ramona tied in goals scored but lost by one goal in goals against.

“As a team we have learned it is not only about the win but can come down to the goals that are let in as well,” explained Jordan. “We are looking forward to a great season.”
