Golfers card best week in league action

Coach John Rathbun’s Bulldog golf team carded its best week in Palomar League action as the Dawgs (6-6, 2-5) swept Mt. Carmel in home action and lost to Poway.
The Lady Dawgs were led by Ally Harvey, who shot three rounds in the forties.
Ramona beat Mt. Carmel 232-316 last Monday at San Vicente Golf Resort to record its first Palomar League win this season. Seniors Harvey and Emily Vandervort shared medalist honors as both golfers shot 40. They bettered their counterparts by 11 and 20 strokes.
Kailey Hill carded a stellar 45 to beat her foe by 16 strokes. Kia Turner’s 52 was 15 strokes better than her counterpart. Courtney Kiesel (55) and Kambria Fitting (57) beat their foes by 20 and 23 strokes.
Ramona came back on Wednesday, traveling to Double Tree Golf Club to play The Mount for the second time in two days. There was no home course advantage for the Sundevils as Ramona prevailed 253-289.
Harvey took the medalist honors by herself as she fired a 45 on the road. Hill shot a 47. Vandervort and Fitting both carded 52. Caitlyn Doulgeropoulos shot 57 and Amber Davis shot a 63 in her first varsity match. Every Bulldog beat her counterpart.
Ramona lost to Poway 233-256 to end a busy week in the Palomar League. Harvey again led the Dawgs. The senior scholar/athlete shot a respectable 42.
Hill shot her third round in the 40s in a week, carding a 48. Fitting recorded a 53. Doulgeropoulos shot 57 and Turner fired a 56. Kiesel shot a non-scoring 64.
Hill shot three rounds in the 40s last week and has been one of Ramona’s most consistent golfers.
“I started playing in middle school,” she said. “I concentrated mainly on softball until then. When I got to high school, my dad (Bob) suggested that I try out. He said that it would be fun, and he was right.”
Hill plays golf with her dad and at times with her brother, Robert, but mom, Chona, doesn’t hit the links.
When asked how it is working out being a sophomore on a senior dominated team, she replied, “Great! They are all like my big sisters. We are like a family.”
A straight A student, she hopes to get a scholarship to play softball in college. She wants to become a doctor and she plans on making golf a lifetime endeavor.
