Remember the regional blackout this month? Cal Fire, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Forest Service and more will be showing the community what they can do in an emergency at the Emergency Preparedness & Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 8.

There will be cooking demonstrations and healthcare providers will check blood pressure as well as take glucose, BMI and hip to waist ratio readings. Classes such as “Cooking in the Dark” and “Be Your Own Hero” will be held, Ramona Senior Center and home health agencies will participate, and tips and helpful ways to improve lives will be shared.

A canning session also is planned for those who would like to learn how to can their own foods.

The fair will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 527 Ninth St., between Ninth and 10th streets, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information, call Pam McKiernan at 619-550-8104. To order a canning kit by Oct. 4, contact parentingusa@aol.com.
