Gift cards benefit schools

You can help any program at Ramona High School, Barnett Elementary, James Dukes elementary, Mount Woodson Elementary, Ramona Community School or Mountain Valley Academy just by eating.

Actually, you have to buy the food at Stater Bros., Albertsons, Von’s or Smart & Final.

You can also help the school programs by driving your car, eating at a restaurant or just holiday shopping.

So what’s the catch? There is a small catch, but it is not a hang-up. The schools have a list of 120 different places that you can purchase gift cards for, and by doing so you will be giving money back to the school or educational program of your choice at absolutely no additional cost to you — no activation fees, minimum purchases or questionnaires to fill out.

For every $100 in gift cards purchased, the schools get between $5 and $6. Besides supermarkets, cards can be purchased for STARS, EXXON/Mobil, Arco, Chevron, Circle K, Daniels and Shell gas, Wendy’s, Carl’s Jr., Arby’s, Jack in the Box, Mi Ranchito, McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Big Apple, Quizno’s, Subway, El Pollo Loco, Del Taco and over 100 other businesses.

Barnett has a table set up every day from 7:30 to 8 a.m. James Dukes has a table on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 3:20 p.m.. Mount Woodson has an outside table on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:20 to 8:45 a.m. and from 3 to 3:25 p.m. Ramona Community School has several opportunities: Every day from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and after school on Monday and Friday from 2:30 3 p.m.. Mountain Valley Academy has an outside table Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:15 to 9 a.m. or through the e-mail at scrip4me@cox.net.

Connie Claxton is on call at Ramona High School from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
