With the region’s unemployment rate hovering around 10.2 percent, many county residents are looking for assistance finding work. The Career Gateway, a free employment resource, may help.

The Career Gateway is a new government-funded project that gathers job sites in one convenient place. Created in collaboration with the Department of Labor and the American Association of Community Colleges, it is specific to California and is available to customers 24/7 at www.gatewaytocareers.com.

Job seekers can log on by zip code and access free assessment tools, interview and resume tips, and job listing sites. This resource and many others can be found at San Diego County Library’s jobs website, www.sdcl.org/job-hunting.html, which provides customers with a variety of tools and resources to consider when looking for work.

“The library is where many residents go for free access to the Internet, family entertainment, personal enrichment and employment assistance,” said Library Director José Aponte. “Our goal is to provide the tools and resources our community needs to build better lives, and we’re continually looking for new ways to meet that goal.”
