Nine Ramona Bulldog football players were selected to the 2011 All Palomar League Football Team.

Seniors Kirk Kaliszewski, Kwayde Miller and Luke Papps were named to the first team offense.

Before going down with a season-ending injury. Kaliszewski rushed for 1,127 yards on 218 carries for a 5.17 average. He averaged 140 yards per game and scored 22 touchdowns and had a school record six TDs in one game against Otay Ranch.

“Kirk was the heart and soul of our team,” said Coach Damon Baldwin. “He fits in with the tradition of great Bulldog running backs. He is a warrior and earned the respect of the entire conference.”

Kaliszewski also started at linebacker and contributed to special teams.

Miller, playing his first year as a full-time offensive tackle, had an outstanding season, said Baldwin.

“He developed into a force on the o-line,” Baldwin said. “He dominated his man in every game, especially in league play. He is the most recruited football player that we have had in my tenure as coach.”

Miller also played defensive line.

Papps was the smallest of the offensive linemen on the first team All Palomar League team in stature only. He was Ramona’s Lineman of the Year in 2010 as a guard and made the move to center in 2011.

At center it was his job to recognize the opposing team’s defensive front and make blocking calls for the entire line. Papps is listed at 220 pounds in the program. Ninety percent of it is heart.

“Luke Papps is what high school football is all about,” said Baldwin. “He works hard on every play, in practice, in the weight room and loves the game.”

Papps also played defensive line.

Junior Javier Dominguez was selected to the first team defense as a defensive back. Dominguez is an all-purpose defensive back. He can play pass defense, but his strength is coming up in run support.

Dominguez also played offense and special teams.

“Javier is one of the best athletes in our program,” said Baldwin. “He is a team leader and he will be a force next season.”

Elias Jauregui was selected to the second team defense as a defensive back. Jauregui played safety but hit like a linebacker. He often led the team in tackles from his safety position.

When Kaliszewski went down with an injury, Jauregui was forced into double duty full time and also played on special teams.

“He did all that was asked of him and more,” said Baldwin. “His motor never stops. He gives it all that he has on every down.”

Seniors Connor Guasti and Jason Laws and sophomores Christian Drews and Tanner “T-Bone” Williams were named honorable mention.

Guasti was an undersized offensive tackle who moved from scout team in 2010 to All League in 2011. He was the smallest starting o-lineman and played tackle.

Laws made the team as a wide receiver. He led Ramona in receptions, reception yards and touchdown receptions.

Drews was selected as a linebacker and a tight end. He is a hitter whether it is as a blocking tight end or a linebacker. He started on both sides of the ball for the entire season.

T-Bone Williams was selected as a linebacker (two footbal team members have the same name, Tanner Williams). He established himself as a force in the middle of the Bulldog defense in the first game and made his presence felt in every game.

“To have so many players selected to the all league team is a testament to our football team and our conditioning program, especially in the Palomar League,” said Baldwin. “Every player that made first and second team had to play on both sides of the ball in league play because of injuries. Every week we faced a playoff opponent and our all leaguers stood out against that competition.”
