Ramona lost to Abraham Lincoln High School 34-7 at home in the opening round of the CIF Division III football playoffs.

Lincoln opened the game by driving 63 yards on 13 plays to take a lead that they would not relinquish. The Hornets scored on a 90-yard punt return and a 23-yard pass to take a 21-0 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Ramona came out in the third quarter and mounted a five-play 65-yard scoring drive. In the drive Elias Jauregui followed the blocking of Kwayde Miller, Connor Guasti, Luke Papps, Eric Box and Paul Meheffie on every play to the end zone.

Jauregui was knocked out of the game on his next carry when he was the victim of a late hit after a 16-yard carry in front of the Lincoln bench.

He finished the night with 118 yards on 15 carries and six tackles on defense.

Sophomore Ryan Lopez got the start at quarterback and completed one of seven passes.

Senior Travis Stevens played the fourth quarter after battling back from a surgery for a broken leg in what many believed was a season ending injury. The senior QB hit four of six attempts for 46 yards.

Keyanis Crichlow led the Dawgs with three receptions for 30 yards. Jason Laws had one reception for 16 yards. Christian Drews had one catch in the game.

Ramona’s defense was on the field for the majority of the game. Dawg D got good efforts from Jauregui, Trevor Kerchner, Crichlow, T-Bone Williams, Daniel Kemp and Zach Hale.

Hale recorded a sack on a tackle for a loss and was in on seven tackles. Kemp, Tanner “T-Bone” Williams and Kerchner all registered six tackles apiece. Crichlow recorded five tackles.

Robbie Farren (4), Alec Ghareeb (2), Drews (3), Chandler Vasquez (3), Tanner Triplett (4) and Jureall Simmons (4) all had multiple tackle games.

In special action, Christian Glotfelty punted well and John Harmaz electrified the crowd with a 27 yard kickoff return on a recovered fumble.

“It was a very tough season,” said Coach Damon Baldwin. “I am proud of the way the team overcame so many adversities. Seven of our senior leaders were lost for most of the season and some of them went both ways when needed. Overall we had 12 major injuries, the most that we have ever had in my tenure as coach. Yet, the team battled in every game and earned the respect of their opponents and the seeding committee.”

The team played a lot of sophomores, Baldwin continued, “and the experience that they gained will be a bonus when we prepare for next season. The leadership that the seniors provided while facing such adversity will be an inspiration and a positive example for the juniors and sophomores that were on the team.”
