Ramona Idol auditions start June 18

Look for an all-new Ramona Idol this year, says Gin Boughner, event chair.

“This year’s Ramona Idol will be bigger and better and all new,” said Boughner. “The only thing staying the same are the age categories.”

Those four age categories for Ramona Idol hopefuls are 5 to 10 years old, 11 to 15, 16 to 20, and 21 and older. Contestants must be Ramona residents.

Auditions will be a cappella (without music or background tracks) and are scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 18, June 25, July 2, July 16 and July 23 — all are Saturdays. Auditions will be in the Century 21 San Vicente building at 2102 Main St.

Three judges will be at the auditions to listen and offer advice. A total of 12 to 15 contestants will receive a golden ticket and advance to the Ramona Country Fair for quarterfinals on July 28, semifinals on July 29 and grand finals on July 30.

All will start at 6 p.m. in the Ramona Outdoor Community Center Pavilion, 421 Aqua Lane.

Past Ramona Idol first-, second- and third-place winners who are interested in performing and presenting awards at the Awards Ceremony on July 31 or who would like to sing the national anthem are asked to call Boughner at 760-315-1454.

Following the performance of past Ramona Idol winners on Sunday, July 31, 2011 Ramona Idol winners will be announced in an Awards Ceremony and prizes will be awarded.

The $5 charge to audition — $10 to audition all five days — will offset the costs of prizes.

Prize packages so far include gift cards, music lessons, recording studio time and cash. The amount of cash awards will depend on money collected at auditions.
