Ramona High’s varsity softball players finished their regular season by winning four of their final five games to finish with a 14-14 record. The Lady Bulldogs finished their initial season in the Palomar League with a 4-6 record.
In the final week of the season the Lady Dawgs beat the league champion Poway and lost to the second place Torrey Pines.
“We did not play well against Torrey Pines, but we finished well in league play and we should get a berth in the Division III CIF playoffs,” said Assistant Coach Robin Brainard.
The Lady Dawgs did play well against Poway (18-6, 8-2). They rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to pick up an 8-7 road victory against the Palomar League champions on May 16.
Kailey Hill led the offense with three hits in five tips. Seniors Cassie ford and Kellsie Domnitz contributed two hits apiece to the offense. Ford stroked a double and drove in three runs. Domnitz hit a home run. Amber Davis also had a two hit outing. KK Melgoza, Lexi Slater, Julie Ward, Kim Whelehon, and Emily Vandervort also hit safely in the game as every Lady Bulldog in the lineup collected a hit and nobody struck out.
Julie Ward went the distance and picked up the win as she gave up five earned runs on eight hits. She struck out two Titans.
Rachel Nasland and Lauren Hynes combined to shut out Ramona on four hits on Senior Day at RHS.
Torrey Pines (22-8, 6-4) took advantage of eleven hits and three Ramona errors to post an 8-0 win. Nasland is Notre Dame bound and just returned from an early season injury.
Davis led Ramona in hitting by going 2-for-3. Hill went 1-for-3 with a double. Slater also went 1-for-3 to finish the season with a .507 batting average. She also posted an unbelievable .910 slugging percentage and a .529 on base percentage.
Ward got the start and took the loss. She gave up five earned runs and nine hits and struck out seven.
The CIF seeding meeting is this week and the Lady Bulldogs should get a berth in the playoffs.
