The Ramona Bulldog golf team showed that it is one of the elite teams in the CIF by making a great showing at the North County Conference Tournament at Woods Valley Golf Course on May 9 and 10.

Junior Joseph Fortunato turned in a great individual performance, said Coach Jerry Patenaude. Fortunato fired a one under par 70 on Day 1 to lead the entire conference. Fortunato shot a 76 on Day 2 of the tourney to finish with a 146. He won the Palomar League individual title and finished second in the North County Conference.

“Joe has to shoot in the 30s in his next two nines to break the school record of consecutive rounds in the 30s set earlier this season by Ryan Graf,” said Patenaude. “He is also in striking distance of most rounds in the thirties for a season.

He has shot 26 rounds in the thirties this season and the record is 29 set by Brian Moberg in 2009. He has only shot in the forties once, and even 40 out of 27 rounds.”

The Bulldogs faired well as a team in the tourney. Ramona finished fourth in the North county Conference and because of their strong showing the Dawgs received the number one seed in Division II in the CIF playoffs later this month.

Christian Rajcic shot 154, which tied him for ninth in the Palomar League and he finished eleventh in the North County.

Graf carded a 155, which was good for eleventh in league and thirteenth in the NCC.

Brandon Barnum shot a solid 160 and Garrett Arnold turned in a 185.
