Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project announces its first Artist Call

Stephanie Norvell of Town and Country Real Estate is excited at the prospect of being among the first building owners in town to sport an art mural on her building at the corner of 10th and Main.

“The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project has been working diligently since the end of last summer to form the nonprofit and to populate their board of directors with well-qualified community leaders,” said S. Elaine Lyttleton, board president. “Several building owners have offered walls, and an email list of more than 100 artists who specialize in murals from the San Diego and southern California areas has been compiled.”

Members of the board have been presenting an informational PowerPoint presentation to service clubs throughout the community, letters of support have been received, and fundraising efforts have begun. The group’s first Artist Call is now being distributed to the email list and is available at www.Ramonamurals.com. This is an invitation to all artists who are familiar with the mural medium to submit a bid for the mural on the Town and Country Real Estate building.

A second building wall is close to being secured, at which point another Artist Call will be announced, said Lyttleton.

“The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project’s mission is to encourage economic vitality by increasing tourism, promoting community pride, and celebrating our rich cultural heritage through an outstanding outdoor visual arts program,” reads the group’s mission statement. The project is named for the acronym adopted by the Ramona Chamber of Commerce and other Ramoona organizations, making reference to Ramona’s geographic location in the center or heart of the county. The H.E.A.R.T. letters refer to the components that identify the community of Ramona: Historical/hiking, Equine, Arts/Antiques/Agriculture, Rural drives/vistas, and Tasting of fine wines. These will also be the focus of the depictions on the art murals.

Additionally, each mural will have a heart icon in it somewhere. For more information, go to the website, or contact Lyttleton at 760-787-1102.
