Public transit district to host community meeting in Ramona

By Karen Brainard

Responding to Ramonans’ concerns about proposed public transportation services and costs, the North County Transit District (NCTD) will host a meeting from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, in Ramona Community Center to collect more input from residents.

In February, the transit district unveiled proposed changes to its service throughout North County. On April 21, the NCTD Board held a public hearing at the district’s headquarters in Oceanside that drew a roomful of people, including 10 representing the bus line between Ramona and Escondido.

LaVonna Connelly, coordinator of the Ramona Transportation Action Committee, was at the hearing and said NCTD board members recognized Ramona’s need for low-cost public transportation after listening to public testimony and reviewing surveys many residents submitted.

“When Ramona engages, it matters,” Connelly said.

According to Connelly, NCTD’s proposed changes reflect an increase in service, but also an increase in fares that could become cost-prohibitive for some residents.

Connelly said the May 17 meeting will be a rare opportunity for the community to give input on the transportation changes and is encouraging residents to attend the meeting, It will be held in the multi-purpose room of the Community Center at 434 Aqua Lane.
