Ramona residents reminded to lock doors

With the end of the school year came reports of vandalism and pranks, some leaving residents in San Diego Country Estates warning neighbors to lock their doors at night.

“We had to call the police last night. About 1 a.m. someone came on our property and shut off all power, then attempted to break in. They did the same to my neighbor,” states a “Ramona Neighbor Alert” sent online via Facebook. “This is in SDCE, but police said same thing happened last weekend in town. Just a reminder to all (to) be aware and call in suspicious activity.”

Deputy Paul Mehaffie with the sheriff’s Ramona station agrees.

“It’s pretty amazing,” he said. “A lot of people don’t lock their vehicles and don’t lock their houses. I wish everyone was that safe, and 99 percent of the time we are, but they need to lock their houses and vehicles.”

Officers investigating reports of power outages at several homes the past two weekends believe it was pranksters “popping breakers.”

“It doesn’t look like they wanted to gain entry,” said Mehaffie. “It seems like kids out playing games...random acts of goofiness.”
