Arson started Eagle fire, CalFire investigators find

CalFire investigators have determined the cause of the Eagle fire to be arson, Battalion Chief Nick Schuler reports.

No further details will be released until the investigation is completed, said Schuler.

The Eagle fire was reported on July 21 at 10:40 pm on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation near Warner Springs. The fire has burned 14,100 acres and is 75 percent contained, CalFire Capt. Mike Smith reported Thursday morning. Over 2,100 firefighters have been battling the fire in steep, rocky and inaccessible terrain.

The fire has burned onto the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Fourteen firefighter have been injured, and the estimated cost to suppress the fire to date is $11.6 million, Schuler reported Wednesday evening.
