Rants & Raves

Rant: The political party system in Washington is broken; the debate over raising the debt ceiling proves it. The reason we have a two party system (at least for the time being) is to provide checks and balances and to COMPROMISE. The United States is one of only a few countries that even has a debt ceiling. If we had a president and a legislature that could make bipartisan decisions, they might actually reduce the deficit and increase services as well and eliminate the need for a debt ceiling in the first place. Do your job or get voted out. We (the voters) have had enough.

Rave: “The Plot Thickens ”Hot Spots fundraiser for our Intermountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department that will be held this Saturday night at the new Ramona Library from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This annual event is always a great party and a lot of fun. Check it out.

Rant: The San Diego Union-Tribune cartoon caption contest on Saturday, the 16th, featured a Welcome to Ramona sign and asked readers to finish the phrase “Where Our Motto is….” The winner was announced this past Saturday with the phrase “Watch Where You Step” — really? I was out of town or I would have submitted, “Where the movies Caddyshack and Deliverance come together.”

Rave: Country Fair time. The 41st annual fair kicks off this Thursday and runs through Sunday, the 31st. Great food, beer and wine garden, craft vendors and let’s not forget the carnival rides!

Rave: Sentinel’s new website and social media website. If you haven’t checked out the new Sentinel website, www.ramonasentinel.com, do so and let me know what you think. The Sentinel has also launched a new social media website, www.ramonavoices.com, to serve the community by providing a free business directory, a buzz board to voice opinions and thoughts about our community, a venue for groups to have their own connections and conversations, plus an events calendar and more.
