Get ready to Sew It, Grow It & Show It at Junior Fair

Share

Hello, my name is Kaylin vanTol. I am 14 years old and this will be my fouth year participating in 4-H. I am a part of the Ramona Paisanos 4-H group and this year I am raising another swine project.

The reason I chose to do a swine project is because it is fun, challenging and teaches many life values. Four-H has taught me not only hard work ethic but it helps me prepare myself for the future.

My pig’s name is Agnes. She is a Yorkshire cross swine and has a lot of potential. She is a great pig to buy. Currently she weighs around 210 pounds.

Agnes is full of muscle, which means she will provide you and your family with many tasty meals. For these last couple of months, I have been working with Agnes feeding, exercising and caring for her to help her be the best, not only for the fair, but for you as well.

As you know, the Ramona Junior Fair is the event all of us 4-H’ers wait for all year. All week during the fair I will be taking care of Agnes so when it is time to show she will be ready.

The most important day of the week is “Auction Day,” Saturday, Aug. 6. That’s where you will find me preparing my pig for auction.

This year will be a little different from the past years. Buyers check-in will begin at 11 a.m. and that’s where you will get your number so you can bid on Agnes. The auction will start at 1 p.m.

Swine, rabbits, goats, chickens and sheep will be auctioned, and then there will be a buyers dinner. After the dinner, veal, turkey and beef will be auctioned. I hope to see you there.

Thank you so much to taking time to read this letter, and I hope you will be interested in bidding on my pig.

Sincerely,

Kaylin vanTol
