Last week for Ramona Idol auditions

Time is running out for Ramonans with visions of being selected 2011 Ramona Idol. Adult contestants have two more opportunities to audition, but teens, juniors and children have only one.

Auditions for adults will be in Cheers of Ramona, 2475 Main St., at 7 p.m. July 21 and at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Century 21 building at 2012 Main St.

The 2011 Ramona Idol Contest has four categories:

•Child, ages 5 to 10;

•Junior, ages 11 to 15;

•Teen, ages 16 to 20; and

•Adult, ages 21 and older.

The most openings are in the teenage category, Gin Boughner, Ramona Idol coordinator, said, encouraging Idol hopefuls from 16 to 20 years old to audition on Saturday.

The contest is open to Ramona residents only. They must audition with no music or background music tracks and must be available to sing all three days of the final competition: quarterfinals on July 28, semifinals on July 29, and grand finals on July 30, all at 6 p.m. at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center Pavilion. Winners of the 2011 contest are not eligible to compete, but past Ramona Idol winners will be showcased at the pavilion at 6:30 p.m. July 31. Winners of the 2011 Ramona Idol titles will be announced on July 31 and prizes will be awarded.
