District 77 Assemblyman Brian Jones recently presented Doug Scholl with a Certificate of Recognition for serving 20 years in the United States Navy and completing two tours of duty in Iraq.

The presentation was in Jones’ office on Mission Gorge Road in Santee. Also present was Dale Smith, former Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander VFW Post 3783, now District 1 commander for San Diego County.

Scholl, a member of Ramona VFW Post 3783, was nominated for Veteran of the Year, State of California. While not selected this year, he was nominated due to the community service he performs sponsoring American Red Cross blood drives at the post with his wife Angela and for coordinating flag retirements for flags from the community of Ramona.

Scholl has been elected Ramona VFW Post Adjutant for the 2011-2012 year.

“It’s always a pleasure when our veterans are recognized when they so willingly volunteered to serve their country,” said Smith.
