The Ramona band Miss Jones and The Leading Tones will debut at Kenrix Sushi Co. on Friday.

The band merges Merissa Jones’ vocals with uplifting pedal steel rhythms to create unique renditions of oldies tunes. With standout tracks like “Ain’t That Good News,” the music of Miss Jones and The Leading Tones appeals to oldies and non-oldies fans.

With Jones are drummer Daniel Cronin Jr., bass player Elliot Ramsey and piano player and guitarist Reggie Costa.

Costa plays at Kenrix’s Open Mic Nights on Thursdays, said Jama McCluskey, who owns and operates Kenrix Sushi Co. at 2330 Main St. with husband Rick. She asked Costa if he knew a singer and he mentioned Jones.

“When you hear this girl sing....she’s incredible,” said McCluskey.

What McCluskey calls Kenrix After Hours will include dinner and the show featuring the band.

The band’s line-up includes songs written and performed by musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke and Percy Mayfield. The musicians’ style is a mix of soul, jazz and blues.

“It’s kind of a Cotton Club-type bill,” said McCluskey. “We’ve built a whole show around her (Jones) with a full band and costume changes.”
