Hot Spots stage A Night of Mystery

If Ramona Hot Spots members know one thing, it’s how to throw a party. The Intermountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department Auxiliary has staged seven since its first meeting in 2005, raising $156,000 for the department.

The theme is never the same, and neither is the location. The first fundraiser was a barbecue dinner and auction at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center. Next came “A Night in The Islands,” A Hawaiian Luau and Auction in 2006. Other successes include:

•”An Evening in Monte Carlo” Casino Night, Fashion show & Auction, a joint effort with the Ramona Rotary Club at the Mount Woodson Castle in 2007;

•”Mad Hatter Tea Party” afternoon tea and auction in 2007;

•”Sherwood Forest at Creek Hollow Ranch” dinner, auction and entertainment in 2008;

•”Rockin’ The Kasbah” belly dancing, camel races and live auction in 2009; and

“Fly Me to the Moon” classic bomber airplane fly-bys, martini bar, Ramona wines, dinner and auction at Ramona Airport in 2010.

This year, the Hot Spots are offering a chance to dress up as a favorite mystery character for “A Night of Mystery at the Library.” Watch as “The Plot Thickens” and money is raised for the volunteer department.

The event will be at Ramona Library, 1275 Main St., from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. Donations are $50 per person in advance and $55 at the door.

A costume contest is planned, and those not wanting to dress in mystery character garb are encouraged to wear formal attire.

What promises to be a mysteriously fun event will include dinner, entertainment, opportunity drawings and an auction. Dinner will be catered by John Little. Ramona Valley wineries will offer free wine tasting from 6 to 7 p.m.

Advance tickets are encouraged because space is limited. Tickets are available online at, from Hot Spots members and at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce office, 960 Main St.
