Gas prices up by largest amount since Sept. 3
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest daily increase since Sept. 3 today, rising 2.3 cents to $3.629.
The average price has risen nine times in 11 days following a 40-day streak of decreases, including 2.2 cents on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 9 cents more than one week ago and 29.7 cents higher than a year ago but 5 cents less than a month ago.
“Getting to the end of the most expensive year on record for gas prices and ending the year at the most expensive prices ever for December does not bode well for 2012,” said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
“The 2011 annual average price paid by drivers is $3.81 in San Diego, about 30 cents higher than the previous annual record set in 2008.’”
