Services for Mac MacWilliams will be Dec. 28

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday released the name of the 54-year-old Ramona man killed in a pickup crash in Lakeside on Tuesday afternoon.

Nelson Edward “Mac” MacWilliams was fatally injured on Wildcat Canyon Road south of Muth Valley Road about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday. MacWilliams, former executive director of Ramona Chamber of Commerce, worked in Congressman Duncan Hunter’s office. A retired Navy chief petty officer, he specialized in veteran and border issues for the congressman.

MacWilliams was the sole occupant of a southbound Ford pickup truck that rolled over and crashed into a guard rail on the northbound side of Wildcat Canyon, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported. It was not immediately clear what caused MacWilliams to lose control of the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Many of us had the privilege of working with Mac as the executive director of the chamber for over four years. And even more of us were able to call him friend. We will miss him,” an email from the Ramona chamber to its members reads.

Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 3 p.m. at Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary, 321 12th St. in Ramona. The public is welcome.
