Summer Reading Club ends Sunday

Ramona Community Library at 1275 Main St. opens at 9:30 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and closes Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays at 5 p.m.

The Summer Reading Club—theme “One World, Many Stories”—for all ages ends Aug. 7.

All are welcome to pick up the library’s August 2011 calendar of events and programs. New events are added all the time. Among August activities:

YOUTH

Baby Lapsit Storytime: Parents bring their 6- to 18-month-old babies and enjoy reading a story together on Monday, Aug 8, and Aug 22, at 11:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime: Preschoolers enjoy a fun story every Wednesday at 11 a.m. They make crafts at 11:30 a.m.

Toddler Storytime: Stories are read from a selection of favorite children’s books every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Pajama Storytime: Bring the family for an evening storytime every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

TEENS

Chess Club: Meets on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m.

Girl Scouts: Scouts help with library projects on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m.

Teen Video Game Arcade: (Grades 6-12) Try some of the popular games on gaming consoles on Saturday, Aug. 13, and Aug. 27, at 1 p.m.

Saturday Afternoon Matinee: Enjoy a movie at the library on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m.

FAMILIES

Pajama Storytime: Bring the family for an evening storytime every Tuesday at 7.

Yoga: Bring your mat on Fridays, 11 a.m. All ages welcome.

Family Crafts: Participate in arts and crafts projects you get to take home, every Friday at 3 p.m. All ages welcome.

Saturday Afternoon Matinee: Enjoy a movie at the library on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m.

ADULTS

National Latino Research Center: Group meeting on Mondays at 5 p.m.

Tai Chi for 60+: Instructor-led Tai Chi classes for adults in the Auerbach Family Community Room on Thursdays at 9 a.m.

Diabetes Workshops: Informative discussions on this health issue on Thursdays, Aug 4 and Aug 18, at 10 a.m.

Bilingual Spanish Computer Helpers: Instruction for beginners on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 760-788-5270 for appointment.

General

Friends of the Ramona Library Board Information: The Board of Directors meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Auerbach Family Community Room. Public is welcome.

Friends Bookstore: Bookstore hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thank you to everyone who attended the July book sale. Your purchases are helping fund some of the library events and programs. The next book sale is Saturday, Aug. 20. The Friendly Waves Newsletter may be picked up in the bookstore or emailed to members.

San Diego County Library News: A yearlong donation campaign, SDCL’s Most Wanted, asks customers to donate a new copy of the Book of the Month or one of the Top Ten Most Wanted books. Donation day for this month is Thursday, Aug. 11. The book of the month for August is “Now You See Her” by James Patterson. Another part of this campaign is the matching funds program. When customers request their donation go to this program, their funds will be matched by the county for up to $200,000. For more information on these programs, ask the library staff.
