By Karen Brainard

Kayla Cooper, 15, daughter of Susie and Jack Cooper of Ramona, shows the 23-inch-long ponytail she had cut off to donate to Locks of Love.

The nonprofit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under 18 suffering from hair loss because of medical conditions.

Cooper had her locks cut by Natalie Phillips, owner of Artistry in Hair, who donates hair on a regular basis to the charity.

Susie Cooper said Kayla had been planning to have her hair cut for Locks of Love for the past year and decided it was time.

Kayla is a student at Ramona High School.
