Jonathan Doulgeropoulos, 14, of Ramona will be completing against baseball players from around the world when he participates in the 30th Annual World Boys League International Baseball Tournament in Japan this summer.
The teen is a member of San Diego Team USA, which will be playing against teams from Japan, Italy, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Venezuela, China and two other USA teams. A total of 16 teams from 10 countries will compete in the tournament.
“I am excited to have been selected to represent our country in this international world tournament,” Doulgeropuolos states in a letter to potential sponsors.
In addition to providing great baseball, the friendship tournament is considered an outstanding cultural and social experience.
“We are asking for donations in order to pay for our travel, hotel and tournament costs,” Doulgeropoulos writes in his letter. “Your donation, no matter how big or small, is very important to me. Because our organization is nonprofit, your donation may be tax-deductible. Our tax ID number is 20-0504653.”
