Library hosts Mariachis for Gringos

Ramona Library will be closed on Monday, May 31, in honor of Memorial Day. The library is at 1406 Montecito Road (access off 16th Street) and is open at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays until 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays until 5 p.m. The library offers the following programs in May:

Families Family Crafts—Create colorful “make ‘n’ take” art projects on Fridays at 3 p.m. All ages are welcome. Mariachis for Gringos—Join author Gil Sperry for a multimedia book talk and signing followed by a live mariachi concert on Wednesday, May 19, at 3:30 p.m.Youth Baby Lapsit Storytime—(to 18 months) Storytime for infants and their adults with rhymes, songs and movements that emphasize adult-child interactions on Mondays, May 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Preschool Storytime—Enjoy a fun story on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Preschool Crafts—Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Grandparents and Books—Grandma Donna reads a favorite children’s book on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Homework Club—Students receive tutoring assistance with their homework Mondays through Wednesdays at 4 p.m.Junior Deputy Club—Safety education for children and their parents on Thursday, May 13, at 10 a.m. Read to Your Breed—Read to a therapy dog on Tuesday, May 25, at 4 p.m.

Teens Girl Scouts—Scouts come to the library to volunteer help with projects on Thursdays at 3:45 p.m. Video Game Arcade—(Grades 6-12) Play popular games on gaming consoles on Saturday, May 22, at 1 p.m.

Adults Adult Literacy Tutoring— ESL—Instruction in reading and writing in English. Call 738-2434 for an appointment: Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Thursdays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Bilingual Spanish Computer Helpers: Instructions for beginners on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 738-2434 for an appointment. Computer Helpers: Instruction for beginners on Saturdays at 8:30 am. Call 738-2434 for an appointment.

Friends of the Library Monthly Book Sale will be on Saturday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering volumes of gently used fiction and nonfiction books at fantastic prices (hardbacks, $1 and paperbacks 25 cents). Come browse through the great authors, the bios, children’s books, cookbooks, plus videos and CDs. Check the special interest and first editions starting at $5 on the Collectors’ Table. All proceeds benefit the library programs, especially important with budget cuts. Board Meeting will be in the Community Room on Wednesday, May 19, at 1 p.m. All directors are asked to attend to complete plans for summer activities.
