Baseball picks up three wins

The Bulldog nine had a busy and successful week as they picked up three wins and improved their record to 16-7 overall. The Dawgs beat Valley League foe Orange Glen to improve their mark to 4-2.

Ramona opened the week at Rocky Lawler Field, beating Orange Glen 18-0 to complete a sweep of the Patriots. The Dawgs pounded out 15 hits in the route.

Kyle Gray had a career day at the plate. The senior outfielder went 5-for-5 with two home runs. His first round-tripper was a grand slam in the fifth inning. His second was a solo shot in the sixth. He drove in six runs and had two singles and a double to go along with his two dingers.

James Nicholson also hit a home in the game. He hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning.

Niklas Skinner, Jackson Willeford and Beau Sulser collected two hits apiece. Sulser’s two hits were doubles. Zach Adamos, Shea Bailey, Alex Willeford and Erik Ernst also collected hits for the Dawgs.

Cody Willingham got the start and picked up the win. He pitched four innings of shutout ball and fanned seven while limiting the Pats to one hit.

Sulser pitched two innings and struck out two.

Blake Drake pitched one inning and struck out the side.

Ramona beat San Dieguito Academy 12-10 at home in a slugfest. The Dawgs collected 14 hits in the game.

Jackson Willeford and Sulser had 3-for-3 plays at the plate. Willeford had two RBIs and a home run. Sulser collected two doubles with an RBI. Smiley Willeford went 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Brady Wilson, Skinner, Michael Scodellaro, Drake and Gray also recorded hits in the victory.

Ernst got the start and picked up the win. He went five innings and gave up five earned runs while striking out five. Sulser went the final two frames and got the save as he gave up one run on two hits and fanned three.The Bulldogs finished the week on the road at Scripps Ranch with a 7-2 victory.

Willingham picked up his second win of the week as he went six innings and gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out six.

Sulser finished the game and pitched a scoreless inning.

Blake Drake and Smiley Willeford were the hitting stars of the game. Drake went 3-for-4 with a home run. Smiley also had a 3-for-4 outing. Nicholson, Sulser, Jason Snodgrass and Scodellaro also hit safely in the win.

The Dawgs play Valley Center today at home and will play the Jaguars at Petco Park on Saturday in Valley League action.

Ramona is tied with Valley Center and Oceanside for the league lead. All three teams have 4-2 records. Westview is 5-3. San Marcos is 2-3 and Mt. Carmel is 3-5. Orange Glen is 1-7.
