Buntain’s wife, Khadija, reported her husband missing the morning of March 23. About 1 p.m. the previous day, Buntain left their Ramona home by car, saying he was going to get some bottled water, she told the sheriff’s department.

On Saturday afternoon, March 27, his car was located in a remote area near the southeastern portion of Lake Sutherland in Ramona, and sheriff’s search and rescue personnel were activated, reported Lt. Duncan Fraser with the sheriff’s Ramona Substation.

Buntain is described as white, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 300 pounds. He has gray hair, a full beard and wears eyeglasses. An insulin-dependent diabetic, he takes several medications but left home without taking any of his medications or insulin and with no personal belongings, Fraser reported. It is believed he was wearing a blue T-shirt and green camouflage pants.

Anyone with any information about Buntain’s whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 760-789-1200.
