Riviera Oaks tennis doubles team captures ‘09 league title

The women’s BB tennis doubles team at Riviera Oaks Resort has captured the 2009 Inland Valley Leah’s League title.

For seven weeks, six doubles teams consisting of 21 players fought and went undefeated with a perfect record of 7-0, sweeping the entire season. Six of the players had perfect records.

Overall, the Riviera Oaks Team racked up 50.8 points, a tight 3.4 points above the second place team.

The season continued with a playoff game against the BB Inland II winner from Murrieta. Riviera Oaks again posted the win.

The Championship Match played on Riviera Oaks home courts in San Diego Country Estates pitted Riviera Oaks against the winner of the Coastal Leagues. Riviera Oaks lost narrowly in a nail-biting third set loss and another loss from injury from one of the players.

The team competed with more than 600 players, making it “a truly winning season” for Riviera Oaks.

Team captain Teri Bishop and co-captain Ninon Oppel led the 21-member team to the season championship.
