Unwarranted charges

By Woody Kirkman

You have no doubt noticed that as the iniquities of the current administration are exposed, the “progressive-socialists” in this country, including those right here in Ramona, are being reduced to a flagrant use of non-sequiters, name-calling, innuendo and defamation. They charge that those that resist or denounce the government takeover of industry, banking, health care, et al, are racist for doing so, when, in fact, there is no basis for such comments. Freedom loving citizens of every race across our country are standing up and speaking out against the obvious tyrannical actions of the so-called “progressives” in Both political parties.

They reference seeing signs at Tea Party events depicting “racism” and what they call “selfishness,” but fail to mention that “progressives” are actually carrying such signs at the events in an attempt to discredit the movement.

Using a derogatory pejorative, they ask where the “Tea Party” group was when the “progressive” George W. Bush was in office and usurping freedoms in cahoots with the democrats. They fail to recognize that millions of conservatives, now becoming active with the Tea Party movement, suspended donations to the Republican party when Bush 43 was in office to protest his inaction in securing our borders, and failure to veto almost every bill presented to him by the Congress. There is no argument from the Tea Party movement that George W. Bush certainly had his shortcomings, and contributed to the problem, along with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

The real question is, why are the “progressives” now silent while the current president continues and even expands policies of the previous administration with which they so strongly disapproved? Are “progressives” suggesting that two wrongs make a right?

The “progressives” charge that the current administration inherited the mammoth deficit from the previous Republican president. It is a fact that in 2008 the Bush deficit was $459 Billion, the highest ever up to that year. They fail to mention that under President Obama’s budget, the deficit has already tripled that record to nearly $1.4 Trillion, and that does not include the 1 to 2 trillion dollars that the proposed healthcare bill that is being strong-armed through Congress will add to the deficit. The “progressives” would have you believe that the only solution is to spend our way out of debt to prevent financial collapse.

It is estimated that the U.S.A. has now amassed a debt, including future liabilities, of over $100 Trillion. The entire collective assets of all Americans was reported by the federal government this past week to be $54.2 trillion. You do the math.

The “progressives” claim that the Republicans are responsible for gridlock in Congress, a ridiculous claim in light of the fact that Democrats have not only held a majority in both the House and Senate since 2006, but a super majority in the Senate as well. If the “progressives” can’t get legislation passed with a super majority, maybe they should stop blaming the conservatives, (which is currently the minority party) and go look in the mirror. Perhaps the vast majority of the American people just don’t want the dose of snake oil being forced down our throats by the current administration.

The repetitive false accusation from the “progressives” is that Tea Party members are racists, don’t want to pay taxes and are intent on eliminating all social programs. They assert that we are selfish and have no compassion for our fellow man. Quite simply, members of the Tea Party movement believe in helping people help themselves and don’t subscribe to President Obama’s demand for what can only be described as “mandatory volunteerism.”

We can read and understand our founding documents and history and recognize that the “progressive” theory generally sounds good to the uninformed, but has always failed throughout history. We, the informed, support the true intent of the Constitution of limited government, individual responsibility and free enterprise because only through that process can we defend liberty for all Americans, regardless of race. We also know that when “progressives” play the race card, they have lost the argument.
