Bulldog boys swimmers fifth at Cougar Relays

Ramona High School’s boys swim team brought nine swimmers to the Cougar Relays March 13 at Escondido and only participated in eight of the 10 events. The Bulldogs still finished fifth as a team.

“We did OK,” said Ramona coach Frank Yturralde. “I didn’t have all my swimmers because of SATs.”

The Scholastic Aptitude Test reduced Yturralde’s squad to where the Bulldogs wouldn’t have been competitive for first place, so he utilized the meet for experience.

“It’s a great meet for the kids to get under their belt as far as racing,” he said.

The meet also allowed Yturralde to determine what events during the season might best fit the swimmers’ athletic aptitudes.

The Bulldogs finished no lower than fourth in any of the events they contested. Their highest finish was a second-place showing in the 3x50 freestyle relay in which Ramona utilized Collin Torsak, Kari Gonter and Alan Williams.
