Softball has 11 letter winners

Ramona High School’s softball team will return 11 letter winners and welcome five players up from the junior varsity and freshman on the 2010 roster.

Junior Lexi Slater is the top returner to the squad. Slater has earned two varsity letters and been all Valley League twice. She led the team in almost every offensive category last season as she posted big numbers on the way to earning first team All Valley League at shortstop and second team All North County.

Slater hit a phenomenal .452, drove in 24 runs and hit two home runs. She had a .519 on base percentage and stole five bases.

Four seniors return for the 2010 season.

Courtney Fick earned all Valley League second team honors as a catcher last season. She hit .310, drove in 15 runs and slammed four home runs.

Tory Roberts earned All Valley League honors at second base last season. She hit .258 and drove in 15 runs. She can also play outfield. With a 4.53 grade point average, her acceptance to Princeton is pending.

Leftfielder Allie Ferguson is returning for her third varsity campaign. Ferguson hit .259 last season. She hits from the left side and specializes in the running swing.

Hillary Roloff will return for her fourth campaign. Roloff will play first base. She hit .247, drove in 15 runs and hit one home run last season.

Four junior letter winners return. Angelina Uriostegui saw limited action last season and hit .083 with two RBIs.

Cassie Ford is a utility player. She plays first base, outfield and catches. She hit .286 with eight RBIs and one home run last season.

Kellsie Domnitz also is a versatile player. She plays infield and pitches. Last season she hit .154 with five RBIs. She was 1-6 as a pitcher with a 6.56 ERA.

Three sophomore letter winners are returning. KK Melgoza will be back in centerfield after a strong frosh campaign. Melgoza hit .297 with 13 runs batted in. and stole four bases.

Ally Harvey also had a strong frosh season, leading Ramona in every pitching category after stepping in for two injured senior pitchers. Harvey posted a 5-4 record with a 4.12 ERA. She fanned 41 batters and hit .167 with three RBIs.

Brooke Brean lettered as a relief pitcher last season. She pitched four innings and was 0-0.

Kim Whelehon (utility), Emily Vandervort (infield), Ashley Houts (infield), Alexis Sharpe (utility) and Kassandra Toll (utility) will all move to the varsity after playing junior varsity last season. Frosh Julie Ward has made the roster as an infielder and pitcher.

The team finished the 2009 season with an 11-18 record. They were 5-5 in the Valley League and advanced to the CIF playoffs. Mike Schuler is back at the helm with longtime assistant coach Robin Brainard.
