All Valley League honors go to Ramona High players

Ramona made the most of its last season in the Valley League in winter sports. Every winter team placed at least one member on the Valley League first team. Wrestling led the honors as three grapplers earned first team All Valley League.

In wrestling, no vote is involved. It goes by the results on the mat. Spaso Ilich (132), Brodie Chenowth (154) and Devin Rhodes (173) had the best records in their weight class and earned first team honors. Marshal Thrasher (217) earned a spot on the second team.

Senior Kellie Schoepp was selected first team All Valley League in girls basketball and was a finalist for the Player of the Year in the league. Schoepp led the Lady Dawgs in scoring (231), points per game (9.6), assists (43), rebounds per game (7.2). Schoepp had 173 rebounds on the season despite missing four complete games and parts of others with injuries.

Senior Tessa Balcom was named to the second team in girls basketball. Balcom averaged 7.2 points per game and led the team with 51 three point goals.

Tori Sheppard, RaeAnne Van Tol and Paige Conroy received honorable mention. Sheppard is a junior. Van Tol and Conroy are sophomores.

Senior Andrew Alcaraz was selected to the first team All Valley League in boys basketball. Alcaraz led the Dawgs in scoring (413), points per game (16.5), 3-point goals (32) and free throws made (71).

Junior Jared Engler nailed a spot on the second team. Engler averaged 8.7 points per game and grabbed 123 rebounds. Senior Keith Scheib and junior Bryson Garcia received honorable mention.

Taylor Shinnick was named to the first team in girls water polo. Angelina Uriostegui was named to the second string. Chenoa Wilcox and Shelby Wilson received honorable mention.

Chris Huber earned a spot on the first team in boys soccer. Eddie Delgado, Jake Venolia and Walker Poortinga were named to the second team. Ulysses Dinero, Andrew Garcia David Downing and Michael Quilo all received honorable mention.

Erika Stinchcomb was named to the first team in girls soccer. Silvia Villegas and Alexis Hogan were named to the second team. Maria Solis, Samantha Schmidt and Gina Lucas received honorable mention.

“Thank you for all of your hard work and sacrifice while balancing incredible hours of being a student/athlete,” said Ramona High School athletic director Damon Baldwin.
