Fire burns 106 acres at base of Palomar Mountain

Final Update: Wednesday, June 23, 6:04 p.m.—The fire is contained at 106

acres. Ten homes were evacuated, but none were damaged, CalFire

reports. The cause remains under investigation. All airtankers have been

released.

Firefighters will be on scene for several hours mopping up hot spots.


Update: The fire is now 75 acres and firefighters are making good

progress, CalFire reported at 5:21 p.m.


A 50-acre brush fire at the base of Palomar Mountain is burning to the east, CalFire reports. Fire and emergency crews from North County Fire, U.S. Forest Service, reservation fire departments, county sheriff’s office and California Highway Patrol are assisting CalFire.

The fire is on the north side of Highway 76 and McGee Road. It was reported at 3:37 p.m. and the cause is under investigation, reports CalFire spokesperson Roxanne Provaznik.

Earlier this afternoon, firefighters stopped a brush fire at four acres near Pala Road and Olive Hill Lane near Bonsall. That fire was reported at 2:10 p.m. and the cause is unknown.
