Bridging from Daisies to Brownies

Girls from Daisy Girl Scout Troop No. 8009 went on a symbolic journey to Balboa Park recently and joined Girl Scout troops from all over San Diego and Imperial counties to walk across the Cabrillo Bridge in demonstration of their readiness to advance from a Daisy Girl Scout to a Brownie Girl Scout.

The Bridging ceremony in Girl Scouts honors the girls’ achievements and gets them ready to advance to the next scouting level, said Danielle Shaw, troop leader. Experiencing this milestone in a council-wide setting allows the girls to visually see the different age levels and uniforms as they progress through Girl Scouts.

Their journey began at Balboa Park’s Organ Pavilion, where all troops gathered for a beginning flag and song ceremony. Jo Dee C. Jacob, the CEO of Girl Scouts, San Diego-Imperial Council, talked to all troops about their Girl Scouting journeys. The troops then filed out of the pavilion according to scouting level and walked toward the Cabrillo Bridge. Each troop carried a handmade banner as the parade of Girl Scout troops crossed the bridge.

At the end of the walk, the girls received a surprise visit from Jacob, who shook their hands and congratulated them for their efforts as Daisy Girl Scouts.

“This bridging ceremony was another great bonding experience for our troop,” said Shaw.
