County waives adoption fees for cats, most dogs through summer

Share

As part of its “Dog Days of Summer” and “Purrfect” summer adoption program, San Diego County Department of Animal Services will waive adoption fees on dogs that are 5 years of age or older or any dog that has been at the shelter for over 30 days, said Director Dawn Danielson.

The adoption special will be available until Sept. 4 and only two dogs per household can be adopted. This incentive follows a recent announcement that waived all adoption fees for kitties 6 months and older. Only two cats per person may be adopted.

“What better time than the summer to bring a new dog or cat into the family,” said Danielson. “We are looking for new pet parents who know that they want to add a new four-legged family member, but they just haven’t taken the time to visit our shelters. Maybe this is just the incentive needed to encourage families to make the ultimate commitment.”

All dogs and cats will be neutered or spayed, microchipped and vaccinated prior to going home with their new family. For more information on adoptions at any of the county’s three animal shelters, or to view photos of available animals, visit www.sddac.com/adoptions.asp.
