Biddy Basketball season ends on winning note

Share

Every team wins in Biddy Basketball.

Impossible? Just ask any of the 56 first- and second-grade players or any of the 30 volunteers who made this season happen. They agree it was a winning season.

“Wilson gym was full of support for all teams, with cheers given for any nice plays,” said team mom Cheryl Silvaggio.

In all, seven teams competed each Tuesday and Thursday evening from April through May.

“I can’t believe how fun it was to coach these little guys,” said Green Giants coach Marissa Spieker. “They improved so much.”

Besides the coaches, volunteer referees added to the instruction during the games.

Ref Wyatt Scott said, “The season started with many timeouts to explain the rules, but many of these kids now have the dribbling and shooting skills necessary for more competitive play.”

The players seemed the most excited, though. Kynara Dukes of the Red Hots team and Ty Jorgensen of the Lightning Bolts said the season was “awesome.”

Each player received a team photo Memory Mate and a participation medal during the Biddy Basketball pizza party on the last night.

“We are so thankful to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for sponsoring this league,” said Tiffany Markee. “My daughter can’t wait to play next season.”

Biddy Basketball had been sponsored annually by the Ramona Branch of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego. For budget reasons, the youth club was unable to sponsor it this year, so Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Ramona coordinated it.
