The Ramona Rattlers 13 & Under (13U) baseball team is going to Steamboat Springs, Colo. The Rattlers qualified for the Triple Crown World Series that will be held from Aug. 3 to 8 in the resort town.

The Rattlers earned a spot in the Triple Crown World Series by winning a qualifying tournament in Palm Springs during the Thanksgiving Break.

Since then the boys have been playing in recreation leagues and in traveling tournaments to keep in shape.

The team is managed by Glenn Hall. Hall’s coaches are Jeff Benke, Keith Jones and Tim Doulgeropoulos.

The Rattlers will be carrying 11 players on the trip. The team consists of: Austin Benke, Garrett Binkley, Gage Canning, Jonathon Doulgeropolous, Ryan Hall, Mikey Jones, Dennis Moon, Austin Ruis, Carl Schwettmann, Adam Scull and Seneca Utech.

The core of the team has been playing together for six years.

The boys have been having fundraisers to defray the cost of the tournament. They have had dinners at Sizzler, Scratch off donations, garage sales and car washes, and they’ve worked in the parking lot at the Ramona Rodeo and received donations from private individuals and companies. Barona Resort and Casino gave a generous donation.

The boys will be getting to Colorado on their own to help cut down on expenses. Most will be traveling with their families. Some are driving and making a vacation out of the trip. Some will be flying in just for the tourney.

This Thursday, July 8, the team is having a fundraiser at The Pott Belly Shop at 885 Main St. from 5 to 8 p.m.

“It is a Ladies Open House, but men are welcome and wanted,” said Tammy Hall the unofficial team mom. “We will have jewelry, purses, Pampered Chef, Shaklee and Gold Canyon Candles. There will be wine tasting and appetizers. It will be a fun(d) raiser for all.”

Those who can’t attend the fundraiser but want to give a donation may call Hall at The Pott Belly Shop at 760-789-4567 or stop by Pott Belly on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
