Ramona Branch Library’s Summer Reading Club continues through July 31. Enjoy.

Youth

Baby Lapsit Storytime—(Ages 0 to 18 months) Storytime for infants and their adults with rhymes, songs and movements that emphasize adult-child interactions July 12 and 26 at 11:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime is each Wednesday at 11 a.m. First Wednesday, July 7, is Bilingual (English/Spanish) Storytime.

Preschool Crafts on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.

Grandparents and Books—Come and hear Grandma Donna read a story from a children’s book on Thursdays at 11 a.m.

Junior Deputy Club—A safety education program for children and their parents. Topic: ”Be Safe in Your Home” will be on Thursday, July 8, at 10 a.m.

Read to Your Breed—Sign up at the reference desk to read to a therapy dog on Tuesdays, July 13 and 27, at 4 p.m.

Summer Reading Club

Sparkles the Clown will amaze the audience with her bubble and magic show on Thursday, July 1, at 1 p.m.

Storytime and Craft with children’s author Dawn Menge—Take a journey to the land of Oceaneer in the books “Queen Vernita’s Visitors” and “Queen Vernita Visits the Blue Ice Mountains,” read by the author, with a special craft on Thursday, July 8, at 1 p.m.

Mad Science Group—Learn about science and water with crazy water-themed science experiments on Thursday, July 22, at 1 p.m.

Mary Beach’s Mermaid Show—Enjoy a fantastical mermaid show conducted by actress Mary Beach on Thursday, July 22, at 1 p.m.

Birch Aquarium presents “Tide Pools”—Sea urchins, hermit crabs, snails and sea stars are just a few of the creatures that call the tide pool home. Through the use of puppets and live animals, children will explore the world of tide pools and learn how these creatures find food, protect themselves and move about in their ever-changing tide-pool habitat on Thursday, July 29, at 1 p.m.

Teens

YAC (Youth Advisory Committee)—Teens meet to discuss the library and anything and everything teen-related on the first Tuesday of the month, July 6, at 5 p.m.

Video Game Arcade—(Grades 6-12) Play popular games on gaming consoles on the second and fourth Saturdays, July 10 and 24, at 1 p.m.

Summer Reading Club

Songwriting Workshop—Famous musician Mary Dolan will help teens write a song, record it and give each participant a CD copy on Tuesday, July 6, at 5 p.m.

Wire Sculptures—Make a work of art using only wire, pliers and creativity, then decorate with paint and stickers on Tuesday, July 13, at 5 p.m.

Soap Making—Learn how to make soap, then make a bar of your own in the color and fragrance you like. Customize soap by adding plastic figurines, marbles or whatever you like on Tuesday, July 20, at 5 p.m.

Button Making and Hippie Swirls—Make your own pin buttons and get creative with hippie swirls on July 27 at 5 p.m.

Adults

Adult Literacy Tutoring— ESL—Instruction in reading and writing English. Call 760-738-2434 for an appointment.

Families

Family Crafts—Enjoy a variety of different “make ‘n’ take” art projects and crafts. All ages are welcome on Fridays at 3 p.m.

Saturday Afternoon Matinee—Enjoy watching an entertaining movie for the entire family on Saturday, July 3, at 2 p.m.

Friends of the Library

The Friends normally vacation during the summer months, but, because of decisions needing immediate attention, the Friends will meet on Wednesday, July 21, at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. Please advise Flo Firth, 760-789-1444, if you are unable to attend.

Monthly Book Sale will be on Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering volumes of gently used fiction and nonfiction books (hardbacks $1 and paperbacks 25 cents). Come meet your neighbors, browse through the great selections.Special items and first editions are on the Collectors’ Table starting at just $5. All book sale proceeds benefit the library programs, including the popular Summer Reading Club program.

The library will be closed Monday, July 5, celebrating USA’s 234th birthday. Congratulations, America!
