Dance Centre has openings for new performers

The Dance Centre of Ramona is getting ready to start rehearsing for this spring’s story ballet, which incorporates all modalities of dance and tumbling. All are welcome to join a class and be included in the concert as well as the San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Ballet, gymnastics, hip hop, tap, and stretch classes are offered at the Dance Centre, the oldest dance studio in town. Chi Varnado, the director, has a Bachelors degree in dance and two teaching credentials and has taught dance and gymnastics for more than 30 years.

Chelsa Sjostrom has joined the Dance Centre as a ballet instructor. She brings with her over 26 years of dance experience and an impressive background to add to the program, said Varnado.

Among the many principal roles Sjostrom has danced in are Giselle, The Nutcracker and Don Quixote. Sjostrom danced in the Swan Lake segment of the movie Being John Malkovitch and has been featured in fitness ads in magazines.

She trained with the San Diego Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and countless other venues and obtained a certificate in International Ballet training. By the age of 12 she was dancing in the Corps de Ballet with the California Ballet, and at the age of 13 she danced the lead in the full length ballet La Fille Mal Garde with the junior company.

“Come join the Dance Centre where the spring concert will be in Ramona, featuring a cohesive work of art instead of recital pieces,” said Varnado.

The studio is known for its unique approach to the performance arts. Classes are $40 per month and performance costs are kept to a minimum.

To be included in the spring program, call the studio at 760-789-8532.
