San Diego County Crime Stoppers has joined sheriff’s detectives in Ramona to help identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible for stealing a tow trailer and about $10,000 worth of tools belonging to a volunteer group that was helping Ramonans whose homes were destroyed by the Witch wildfire in 2007.

Between Dec. 12 and 13, a trailer containing about $10,000 worth of construction tools was stolen from the parking lot at 1710 Montecito Road. The Montecito Road property, owned by the Ramona school district, for the past two years was home to the Ramona Fire Recovery Center and now houses the town’s Teen Center.

The trailer is described as a gray, single-axle tow trailer belonging to Mennonite Disaster Services. It is registered in Pennsylvania with license plate number XCV9388.

The Mennonite Disaster Service is a volunteer network that focuses on cleaning up, repairing and rebuilding homes in disaster areas. They were working on rebuilding homes in Ramona that were burned in the Witch fire in October 2007.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the identity of the person or persons responsible for this crime to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
