RUSD hosts free H1N1 vaccinations on Saturday
Ramona Unified School District will host the community’s second H1N1 Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The clinic will be in the performing arts center at Olive Peirce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer free swine flu vaccinations to all Ramona residents over the age of 6 months and to school employees.
San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency is providing the clinic, and nurses from Rady Children’s Hospital will administer the vaccine.
The county confirmed the Jan. 9 date with the school district Monday, and Supt. Robert Graeff, Ph.D., prepared details for ParentLink telephone calls to every household in the district and for the district’s Web site, www.ramonausd.net. He also sent a communication plan to school principals and take-home flyers for each elementary student.
In addition, the district has established a phone line—760-787-2006—exclusively dedicated to information about the clinic. Immunization consent forms for children and adults are on the RUSD Web site.
Vaccinations will be administered by last name:
• A—F, 9 to 10:30 a.m.
• G—M, 10:30 a.m. to noon.
• N—Z, noon to 2 p.m.
Children under 10 years old will need two doses of the vaccine. Adults and other children will require only one dose.
While the school district is providing the clinic location, the event is under the complete direction and supervision of the county public health agency.
“The district is aware that the vaccination is more available now than it was two months ago,” Graeff says in his PhoneLink message to parents and guardians. “Still, as a free service to our families, we are cooperating with the county in making this important service as convenient as possible.”
As in Ramona’s first communitywide H1N1 clinic, held in November, PTA, school staff and student volunteers will assist this Saturday. About 1,425 vaccines were administered at the Nov. 14 clinic, when vaccines were offered to children and pregnant women. The free vaccines on Jan. 9 will be offered to all Ramona residents over age 6 months and to school employees.
