Two Bulldog girls soccer games end in 1-1 ties

Share

For the second consecutive week, Ramona High School’s girls soccer team played three league games in five days, and the Bulldogs played to two 1-1 ties while losing a 1-0 game to start the week.

The rains that canceled the games of Jan. 20 and Jan. 22 forced Monday makeup matches, and, after playing three games the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 29, the Bulldogs hosted Westview in the Feb. 1 makeup match originally scheduled for Jan. 22. The Wolverines scored the only goal of the game on a second-half breakaway.

Ramona traveled to Oceanside for a Feb. 3 contest. In the first half Silvia Villegas was fouled in the penalty box and scored on the ensuing penalty kick, and the Bulldogs had a 1-0 halftime lead. Oceanside scored on a cross play midway in the second half to salvage the 1-1 tie.

The physical game saw two Oceanside players on the field and two Oceanside players on the sidelines receive yellow cards. No Ramona players were carded.

The Bulldogs traveled to Orange Glen for a Feb. 5 game they played in the rain. Orange Glen scored on a cross late in the first half, and midway in the second half Villegas beat a defender to the outside, cut back, and shot the ball into the net.

The field became sloppy later in the second half, and no further goals were scored.

The results gave Ramona a 3-7-6 overall record, including a forfeit loss, which was originally an on-field tie, and a 1-4-4 Valley League mark. If weather permits, the Bulldogs will travel to Valley Center tomorrow.
