Ramona gardens, art studios open for annual tours this weekend

Share

Ramona artists and gardeners are staging tours this weekend, providing the public with an opportunity to see them at their finest.

Ramona Garden Club’s Third Annual Garden Tour and Plant Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the seventh annual Ramona Artists’ Open Studios Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Five lush, full and unique gardens will be open for the garden tour, and the plant sale will be in the parking lot of First Business Bank, 1315 Main St. An opportunity drawing will be held in conjunction with the plant sale, with $1 and $5 tickets available.

Garden tour tickets are $15 each and are available at Ramona Interiors, 707 Main St., and at the plant sale. Ramonans showcasing their gardens are Cindy and Ron Parks, Duetta and Doug Bellamy, Becky Elliorr, Carol and Jim Spencer, and Rosemary and John Iraci.

Proceeds from the tour benefit the Ramona Garden Club Scholarship Fund and other community projects. The garden at Collier Park and the organic vegetables and flowers at Montecito High School are among club projects.

More information about the garden tour is available from George Suitor at 760-788-5961.

Joining the Ramona Artists’ Open Studios Tour this year is internationally known wildlife photographer Roy Toft. And hot off the press is a book featuring the wildlife photography captured by Toft in his visits to many foreign countries.

Also new to the tour are Nancy Wiley, Tracy Potter, Carol Levin and David Begent of the Highland Valley Studios. Artists Venus Andrecht, Susan Bainbridge, Jim Berger, Antonia Cosentino, Donna Davis, Sue Dawe, Lyn Feudner, Linda Kelly, Bob Nabours, Carolyn Nespolo, Leslie Sousa, Jil Streed and Helen Wilson will participate again.

Each artist has his or her own unique approach to artmaking. They need solitude to nurture their creativity, but sharing their experiences with others completes the process.

Open Studios features 18 award-winning Ramona artists in 15 private studios located throughout Ramona. The artists’ work reflects a variety of media that includes painting, sculpture, quilt art and woodturning, ceramics, photography, jewelry, gourd art and glasswork.

Sponsored by Ramona Chamber of Commerce and area businesses, the self-guided tour may be viewed in any order and at your own pace. Tickets are $10 each and are available in advance at the chamber office, 960 Main St.; Daniel’s Liquor and Deli, 1350 Main St.; AJ’s Art and Frame, 621 Main St.; Daniel’s West, 17718 Hwy. 67; and Java Hut, 23658 San Vicente Road; and at the artists’ studios of the days of the event. Follow the bright yellow and black “Open Studio Tour” signs.
