Teens place first in regional swim meet

Two swimmers from Ramona qualified for the Western Zones Swim Meet held in Waipahu, Hawaii at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

Lisse Litka-Baughman and Garrett Glaudini represented the 13-14 age group of the San Diego-Imperial Local Swim Committee at the regional meet this summer. Each swam their best six events and competed against swimmers from 14 other teams from across the Western United States.

Litka-Baughman had outstanding swims as a member of two relay teams: the Girls 18 and under 400 Meter Free Relay, placing first with a new Western Zones Record of 4:10.10, and the Girls 18 and under 200 Meter Free Relay, also placing first in 1:55.46. Litka-Baughman placed 23rd in the Girls 13-14 50 Meter Free in 29.70, 19th in Girls 13-14 100 Meter Butterfly in 1:10.45, 12th in Girls 13-14 200 Meter Butterfly in 2:35.53, 12th in Girls 13-14 400 Meter Free in 4:52.38, and 15th in Girls 13-14 100 Meter Free in 1:02.59.

Glaudini placed first in the Boys 13-14 1500 Meter Free in 17:01.83, 7th in the Boys 13-14 200 Meter Free in 2:05.71, 7th in the Boys 13-14 400 IM in 5:02.40, 4th in the Boys 13-14 400 Meter Free in 4:19.56, 15th in the Boys 13-14 200 IM in 2:27.5 and 1st in the 800 Meter Free in 8:57.49.

The Ramona teens agreed it was a great opportunity to represent San Diego in a regional meet, compete against some of the best swimmers in this region and make new friends.

“Heartland Swim Association is very proud of our swimmers and their performances,” said Jolyn Yanez, Heartland coach.
