In the third fatality on Ramona roads in less than two weeks, a 51-year-old San Diego man may have committed suicide by driving his black BMW into a boulder at the end of Mussey Grade Road on Monday.

A Mussey Grade Road resident discovered Kevin Lee Hansen, unresponsive and apparently dead, in the driver’s seat of the wrecked car, and she called 911 late Monday afternoon, the county Medical Examiner’s Office reported. Hansen, who recently lost his job as a car salesman, lived with roommates in a home in the City Heights section of San Diego, according to the medical examiner.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Hansen was not wearing a seatbelt, and the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when, for an unknown reason, it drove directly into a large boulder on the east side of the road, CHP Officer Brian Pennings said Tuesday morning. Later Tuesday, Pennings said a suicide note had been found.

Emergency crews from the Ramona Fire Department responded to the crash and confirmed the death, officials said. According to the CHP, the 911 call came at 5:23 p.m. and the man had been dead for several hours.

The crash occurred in the Fernbrook area, where Mussey Grade Road turns into private property.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, a 36-year-old Florida man was killed in a head-on crash on Wildcat Canyon road near Casa de Carol, and on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 46-year-old Mark Anthony Taylor of Ramona was killed when a car made a U-turn directly in the path of the motorcycle Taylor was riding.

The Florida man, Keith Gregory Sexton, was killed when another vehicle crossed the double yellow line and hit his vehicle head-on. Sexton, who was in the San Diego area on business, owned Boat Rentals of Key West at the Galleon Marina in Key West, Fla., according to The Key West Citizen newspaper.

An outdoor Memorial Service for Sexton will be held on the south side of Shelter Island near Bali Hai at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, with a reception and celebration of his life in Bali Hai at 6 p.m. More information is available at guild.mea@gmail.com or dkilcoyne8@yahoo.com.

A Memorial Service for Taylor is planned in Ramona on Oct. 11. For details, e-mail marktaylormemorial@ yahoo.com.
