Ramona’s freshman and junior varsity football teams lost to Poway last week The frosh lost 61-6. The JV team lost 32-14.

“We were beaten soundly, but we had some bright spots,” said Coach Mike Ernst. “Chris Wier played very well at nose guard on defense. Daniel Kemp also played well at line backer. We made too mental errors and we have to improve our blocking and tackling. We will improve.”

Ramona’s lone touchdown came on a pass from Hunter McHargue to Elias Chavez. McHargue actually completed several long passes, but on two occasions the receiver fumbled after long gains.

The JV team scored its first touchdown when Shane Barnes took a draw play handoff from Travis Stevens and ran 22 yards.

The Dawgs also scored on a 67-yard reverse pass from Josh Mahaffey to Garland Marshall.

Paul Loska was the offensive player of the game. The tight end graded well on his blocking assignments and made four catches, one for a PAT conversion.

Linebacker Steve Rothermel was the defensive player of the game. Punter Christian Glotfelty was the special teams player of the game.

The frosh travel to Valhalla today for a 5 p.m. game. The junior varsity will play Valhalla in the Dawg Pound tomorrow at 4:30.
