Essential that library keep moving forward

   The new Ramona Library will be a valuable resource for all of the families and citizens of Ramona. It was back in September of 2007 when the San Diego County Board of Supervisors signed the letter to authorize construction of the library and then in February of this year the community voted on the final design. Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for the first part of November, and, as the final details get worked out, let’s not lose sight of the big picture here.

   It appears that the county, Caltrans, the Ramona Community Planning Group, the Design Review Board, the Village Design Committee, the Ramona Tree Trust and others are focused and committed to making this happen. The last thing that needs to happen is to have meeting after meeting to discuss small details to appease the few. The fact that a few younger eucalyptus trees may need to be cut (and later replaced with others), the color not being everyone’s particular taste, signage that is large enough to be seen and the possible restricting to “right in/right out” at 13th and Main Street should be minor concerns, and no way should they be a sticking point. Let’s keep this project going. Everyone needs to come together for the betterment of the community and keep this on schedule. This will not just be a library, but a community center benefiting children as well as adults and a much needed addition to the town of Ramona. Let’s not slow it down.
