Boy Scout’s popcorn fundraiser

Share

Fourteen of Ramona’s Boy Scout and Cub Scout units are out in their Scout uniforms selling their famous Trails-End popcorn in front of local businesses and door-to-door.

Sales started last weekend and will continue through October. Popcorn sales is the Scout’s largest, sometimes only, fund-raiser for the year.

Ramona scouts earn over 34 percent commission on all products sold. The commission is used by Ramona Packs, Troops and Scouts to pay for awards, camping trip fees, outings, equipment, uniforms and the like to help enhance their Scouting fun. Last year, units and Scouts used their commission for unit outings big and small like backpack weekends, ski trips, week-long day camp and summer camp, bowling, canoe and kayak trips, and even indoor skydiving, just to name a few.

The Scouts are selling 11 different varieties of popcorn this year: Caramel Corn in a bucket; microwave popcorn in Unbelievable Butter and Butter Light; Caramel Corn Light; Caramel Corn with almonds, pecans and cashews; Chocolate Triple Delight, new this year, popcorn drizzled with chocolate, butter, toffee and yogurt; Cheese Lover’s, a combination tin with cheddar and white cheddar; a 3-way tin with chocolate triple delight, caramel and cheese popcorn; Chocolate Lovers tin, new this year, has the chocolate triple delight, and chocolate and white chocolate covered pretzels; reformulated this year is the gourmet Trail-Mix resealable bag with raisins, cranberries, almonds, walnuts, yogurt covered raisins and cranberries.

Original popping corn kernels are available to order. Peanuts have been removed from all of the products this year. Product prices range from $10 to $55.

“We are again excited to participate in Operation Popcorn this year,” said Patty Andrews, Ramona resident and Popcorn Kernel for the Pacific Crest District popcorn campaign. “Your donations will be collected to send popcorn to our soldiers overseas. Our Council has received hundreds of letters from the soldiers who received our Operation Popcorn from the last two years commenting how they loved the surprise treat, and they even appreciated the tin the popcorn came in, too.

“When you see our smiling Scouts out there asking ‘Would you like to buy some Boy Scout popcorn?’, keep in mind all the great things these boys will be able to do and see with your generous purchase.”
